Oldblaccro is a Washington, DC–based independent artist, from Gary, Indiana whose music draws deeply from the soul of classic R&B, jazz, and groove-driven songwriting. Every Oldblaccro release is fully self-contained—composed, produced, arranged, and engineered by the artist himself—resulting in a sound that is both personal and timeless. Music has been a constant presence in Oldblaccro’s life. Though his parents were not musicians, his home was filled with records that shaped his musical DNA: Stevie Wonder, Nancy Wilson, Al Green, The Fifth Dimension, Gloria Lynn, Friends of Distinction, Jimmy Smith, and the socially conscious soul and rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Songs like *“Shotgun,” “We’re a Winner,” “Ball of Confusion,”* and *“Light My Fire”* left a lasting imprint. The first record he ever purchased—*“Superstition”* by Stevie Wonder—proved prophetic. His hands-on musical journey began early, experimenting with a simple Magnus chord organ in elementary school, followed by saxophone studies in junior high. By high school, Oldblaccro was performing in the school’s prestigious stage and jazz bands, absorbing syncopation, jazz phrasing, and music theory through years of intensive band training. These formative experiences cemented his feel for groove, melody, and arrangement. After stepping away from music during college, inspiration returned in the early 1990s while working at a television station, where exposure to early computer-based music production reignited his creative drive. Armed with borrowed equipment, a saxophone, and eventually a Technics KN1000 keyboard, Oldblaccro entered a prolific period, creating dozens of original compositions between 1990 and the late 1990s. Though life eventually required him to pause, the music never truly left. Following a long hiatus, he returned to songwriting and production around 2019, this time with renewed purpose and modern tools. By 2021, Oldblaccro committed to sharing his catalog publicly—digitizing earlier cassette-based recordings and releasing a growing body of new work. Along the way, he immersed himself in the business side of music, learning modern distribution, publishing, royalties, and artist ownership through platforms like ASCAP, Songtrust, and SoundExchange. Today, Oldblaccro continues to create music rooted in classic R&B sensibility and some jazzy tunes but informed by decades of lived experience. His catalog now spans more than 30 years of creativity, offering listeners music meant to be felt, revisited, and enjoyed over time. If the songs bring pleasure, reflection, or simply a good groove—and maybe a few coins along the way—then the mission is fulfilled. Take a listen, enjoy, and thank you for the support.
